Cannabis food and drink patents saw increase in last five years, says report - Cannabis News
The cannabis food and drink sector has seen a large increase in patent filings in the last five years, according to a PatSnap report.
The report, which covered cannabis compounds in edibles and beverages and how new legislation offers a “once in a lifetime opportunity”, showed that 242 patent families covering cannabis food and drink were filed in 2015, up from 144 in 2012, evidencing a growing trend toward cannabis patents over the past 5 years.
According to the report, legal cannabis sales in the US are expected to reach almost $10 billion in 2018 and nearly $23 billion in 2025.
