Gov. Tony Evers signed legislation Tuesday broadening the state program that allows hemp farming.
The new law expands on recent state and federal laws that made it easier to farm hemp with low levels of THC, the component in marijuana that gets users high.
The latest law removes hemp from the state's list of controlled substances and puts the state on a course to regulate hemp production itself, rather than having the federal government do that.
