Dozens of Iowans have decided not to wait for legislators to make the sale of medical marijuana legal in the state.
While lawmakers continue their years-long debate on the issue, families are quietly purchasing a cannabis extract from at least two out-of-state companies that ship the oil into Iowa.
Is it legal? That’s debatable. But law enforcement agencies are aware of the shipments and haven’t stopped them.
A Colorado organization told The Des Moines Register last week that it has sent its cannabis oil to more than two dozen Iowans, who have received a total of 52 shipments via Federal Express. A California company is shipping such oil to Iowans via UPS, though it wouldn't say how many customers it has here.
