Branson’s firsthand exposure to cannabis-funded drug abuse treatment in Colorado is significant, state officials and marijuana industry representatives agree.
After corporate mogul Richard Branson celebrated the launch of his airline Virgin America’s service to Denver International Airport on March 15, the self-made billionaire quietly toured a north Denver substance abuse treatment facility that receives some of its budget from marijuana taxes, The Cannabist has learned.
Branson’s team instigated the short meeting — with representatives from the marijuana industry and officials from the Colorado Department of Human Services — via a call to Colorado’s director of marijuana coordination Andrew Freedman. “They reached out to us,” Freedman said.
“They were in town for the launch and reached out to see where some of the marijuana money was going.”
