OKLAHOMA CITY – Marijuana legalization advocates praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal to consider a lawsuit initiated by Oklahoma and Nebraska challenging Colorado’s recreational and medical marijuana laws.
Norma Sapp, state director for the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML), said the court’s decision saved Oklahoma taxpayers “a lot of money” in legal fees by shutting the case down now.
Oklahoma and Nebraska sought permission from the Supreme Court in December 2014 to sue Colorado. The Court announced its decision on Monday.
Sapp doesn’t understand why Oklahoma challenged another state’s laws since law enforcement agencies in the Panhandle are “getting rich” from enforcing Oklahoma’s civil asset forfeiture laws.
