A bill that would legalize hemp production in New Mexico passed another legislative hurdle on Monday.
Senate Bill 6 has already cleared two committees in the state Senate and is now set for a floor vote on Tuesday.
If it passes, it will go to the House of Representatives. Hemp is controversial because it's a type of cannabis plant that contains very small amounts of THC, which is found in marijuana. However, hemp can be used to make a wide range of products from clothes and paper to backpacks and balms.
