5 Ways Marijuana Can Help Cure Your Election Hangover

The election has been brutal, affecting everything from our our motivation to our appetite and sleep. Here’s how marijuana can help you win the battle.

November just started but it feels like it’s been going on forever. The super slow results and razor thin margins have likely inspired a thousand panic attacks. For many of us, it’s been very difficult to concentrate and to not succumb to our worst impulses — mainly the constant refreshing of interactive maps and eating all the junk food in sight. Even if it feels like the country is falling apart, it’s important to take care of yourself and your relationships. Marijuana can help.

While the herb can be a great escape mechanism, it can also be a constructive way of grounding yourself in the present and curbing other coping mechanisms that are more harmful. Here are 5 ways marijuana can help cure your election hangover:

It can curb your drinking

2020 has had no mercy. The gloves have been off since March, pummeling us with a barrage of COVID-19 cases and uncertainties. The elections are much of the same, giving us a free pass to drink earlier every day. While drinking does help to make us feel better in the short term, marijuana might play a more effective role in the long term, eliminating hangovers, treating your body more kindly and preventing sad drunken episodes. Next time you feel yourself itching to reach for that bottle of wine or that whisky you’ve been saving for a special occasion (the end of the world counts), reach for a joint instead. Your body will thank you.

Will recreational marijuana soon be legal in Pennsylvania?

With voters in New Jersey overwhelmingly passing a bill to legalize recreational marijuana is it a sign for other states, including Pennsylvania?

 “It’s money, it’s jobs, it’s justice, it’s freedom,
Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman said.

Fetterman has long been an advocate for legal marijuana, but nowadays after New Jersey voters approved adult-use cannabis he says Pennslvynia could be poised to lose out on millions in revenue.

“Legal weed in New Jersey is huge for Pennsylvania too because 40 percent of our population will no more than a drive to the grocery store to buy as much legal marijuana as they want," he explained.

Not everyone wants to go green there are still many groups who fear legalizations leads to drugged driving and an increase in teen use.

Detroit-based television series will explore the world of cannabis

Detroit-based production company ASK-Y LLC is currently filming “Smokin’ Good,” a drama series set in the ‘world of cannabis.’

The series will follow August Good, portrayed by Shiek Mahmud-Bey, as he navigates his transition from the illicit cannabis market into the legal framework, notes a press release.

“The average person has no idea what this industry is really about,” says Andrew Watson, co-executive producer. “They primarily feed into the stigmas attached to cannabis, and that, in turn, affects their perception. This show will give them a taste of what the industry is, and from a very unique perspective. You rarely see a Black man’s point of view with cannabis, outside of being arrested and locked up from it.”

Watson called the show semi-autobiographical. “It details my successes, my failures and everything in between as a cannabis entrepreneur,” he says.

Mahmud-Bey called the series “a classic, from-the-streets-to-the-boardroom tale,” adding “those types of stories never get old, and the writing for this one is incredible.”

Can Cannabis Treat OCD?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) impacts millions of people in the United States. The mental health disorder occurs when people find themselves in an endless cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions.

Cannabis may emerge as a treatment to help break that cycle. A new study from the University of Washington, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, found that those who smoked weed saw a reduction in the symptoms common for those who suffer from OCD.

“Inhaled cannabis appears to have short-term beneficial effects on symptoms of OCD,” the researchers wrote. However, researchers noted that they need to also study long-term use as it might lead to a buildup of tolerance to the beneficial effects of cannabis.

Other studies have found similar results when it comes to marijuana and anxiety. And the public certainly made its opinion known by increasing the use of cannabis to deal with anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Details of the study

To understand the impact of cannabis, researchers worked with 87 medical marijuana patients who self-identified as having OCD. The study involved a whopping 1,810 cannabis sessions over 31 months.

4 Reasons To Use Cannabis For Treating Women’s Health Issues

Cannabis has gained a lot of popularity recently. After several studies, researchers have proved that it provides benefits for many physical and mental disorders. Even though both men and women face different kinds of health issues, some health ailments affect women more.

Health challenges like melanoma, menopause, heart attacks, depression, and cervical cancers exhibit among female patients. Women have started discovering the health benefits of cannabis by using edibles. Let’s look further into four reasons why women should use cannabis for their wellbeing.

Cannabis and women’s health

1. Can Relieve Menstrual Cramps

Women’s bodies go through a lot of changes during menstruation. Menstrual cramps are the most painful menstruation signs that are throbbing, cramping pains in the lower abdomen. For some women, the pain is minimal, but the kinks can be severe for others. It can start affecting day-to-day activities for a few days of the menstrual cycle every month.

Most menstrual cramps become severe from the onset of the period, causing lower back and thigh pains. It can also lead to nausea, headaches, and dizziness.

Cannabis can help relieve pain during menstruation. Although studies behind the use of cannabis to ease menstrual discomfort are rare, research in 2015 showed that cannabis could be used to reduce menstrual aches.

How Marijuana Affects Men And Women Differently

The main way that cannabis acts differently in women as opposed to men is its interaction with the female production of estrogen.

For decades, the cannabis movement has been predominantly a boy’s club. Women are rising up and earning leadership positions all over the industry now, but where did that original disconnect come from? Could it be the way that marijuana affects men and women in different ways?

From voting on measures to cultivating the plant, women are crucial to the success of the  cannabis industry and are now leading the way into its next evolution. While balance is being restored, however, having the knowledge of how cannabis affects people when sex is the main equation is important, not only for valuable information, but for direction in the ever more detailed world of weed.

The main way that cannabis acts differently in women as opposed to men is its interaction with the female production of estrogen. In a study conducted by Washington State University, researchers found that estrogen is like a magnifying glass for THC and so it may take less cannabis to elevate a woman, especially in the days prior to her ovulation. This is a very good thing for gals who toke, as cannabis is one of the best remedies for period pains, mood swings and other discomforts.

How To Choose The Best Cannabis Strain

The two major strains are Sativa and Indica. The choice between the two depends on personal preference and the feeling that you’re ultimately looking for.

Cannabis has different strains. Picking the right one is crucial for one to get the feeling that they are looking for. One can choose to go with those that contain THC or the ones that do not have this component such as CBD oil.

Important to note is that cannabis is not legal in most states, and one must bear this in mind before trying to buy any weed product. For countries where the use of cannabis is permissible, it is best to buy from authorized dealers to make sure that the weed bought is good quality and free of harmful substances. Back street dealers tend to lace their product with other substances that can alter the normal functioning of the body.

Medicinal marijuana does not contain high levels of THC in most cases if not all, since the feeling of highness may augment certain symptoms. Those using for leisure need to know how to pick the best brands. Below we discuss how to choose the best cannabis strain.

Know the options available

The three significant strains of marijuana are Indica, Sativa, and hybrid. Hybrid is a combination of the two major strains, Sativa and Indica. It elicits mixed reactions for the body and mind since the two mixed to form the blend affect the user differently. Sativa strains have an energizing effect on the user, influencing them to be active and take part in different activities. Indica, on the other hand, is more relaxing and after using any of the strains in this family, the user tends to be laid back with a deep sense of relaxation. The choice between the two depends on personal preference and the feeling that one is looking for.

Police warn parents of edibles resembling Halloween candies

In line with the most recent Halloween tradition, state police are warning parents in the United States to look out for edibles in their kids’ candy ahead of this weekend’s spooky celebration.

According to Indiana State Police, authorities seized edibles in packaging virtually identical to the popular Starbrust and Skittles candies just last weekend.

“Parents, here is an example of what to look for in your child’s Halloween candy this year. These were seized just this past weekend by one of our Troopers from the Lowell post. While they are packaged and marketed to look like candy, they are not. You have to look closely to see the ‘Medicated’ wording. Please thoroughly check all candy and don’t assume it’s ‘OK’ just because it looks ‘OK,’” Indian State Police shared on Facebook along with photos of the seized marijuana-unfused treats.

Last year, police departments in Pennsylvania and North Carolina issued similar warnings, which included advice to parents to discard all home-made candies children might receive during trick-or-treating.

Although skeptics frequently point out that nobody would willingly give away free marijuana to kids, particularly edibles which can be quite expensive, Yahoo News writes that children are known to ingest edibles sometimes. In fact, poison control centers in California received over 250 calls in 2017 regarding children accidentally ingesting edibles.

How to choose and buy weed edibles like a pro

The world of edibles can be overwhelming for those with no previous experience. In the U.S., there are all types and dosages available, not to mention their reputation for resulting in bad highs. It’s easy to turn away from edibles, choosing something more approachable and has less couch-locked potential.

Despite these considerations, some cannabis users really enjoy edibles, so much so that they choose them over all other methods of consumption. Some argue that edibles are healthier than vaping and smoking (at least when it comes to the lungs) and are capable of producing stronger results. It is also possible they will provide more pain relief and a stronger response whether for the body or the mind.

Still, edibles can be intimidating, especially if a person is unfamiliar. Here are some basics that any user should know.

Cannabutter versus extracts

Edible makers can infuse their foods with cannabis in a variety of ways, primarily with cannabutter and extracts. Cannabutter is the product that results once butter or oil is infused with cannabis. This mixture is then used to make brownies, chocolates, etc. Cannabutter includes the benefits and limitations of the whole cannabis flower, providing a consumer with the full spectrum of cannabinoids. This means there’s THC, CBD and more in these types of edibles, but also that their effects can be less predictable.

Edibles made with extracts are more targeted. Producers can isolate THC or CBD in a lab and later add them to their products, with the idea of making something more reliable and consistent. Edibles prepared with extracts may be a good option for people who are looking for a specific effect.

These Are Just Some Of The Common Side Effects Of CBD Oil To Be Aware Of

CBD, one of the main components of the cannabis plant, is now being looked at as a highly effective remedy for all kinds of conditions.

Although not enough research has been conducted to prove it can cure any specific ailments, research indicates it can be effective in treating a wide variety of health issues.

When you read about all of its benefits, it almost seems like some kind of “miracle drug.”

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a miracle drug.

Even though it is holistic and safe, CBD does have some side effects associated with its use.

Why You Didn’t Get The Cannabis Strain You Think You Did

You need genetic authentication to get specific information on cannabis strains. And getting that genetic information may not be available now—or for years to come.

You buy your favorite cannabis strain—let’s say it’s Blue Dream. It’s a common strain, very popular and available at many dispensaries no matter where in the 33 states you go to get it.

But a lab check will tell you that the Blue Dream you got in Denver is not the same Blue Dream you got in Chicago. There may be little changes in the chemical composition. There may be big changes. Or there may just be downright deceit: “Hey, Blue Dream is popular, let’s slap a label on this generic preroll of indistinguishable origin and call it Blue Dream and voila, sales increase!”

Only a lab analysis can show you the cannabinoid and terpene combinations of a specific strain of marijuana that can help you get what you want. Most responsible dispensaries have that information.

But that only gets you close to what you want. You need genetic authentication to get more specific. And getting that genetic information may not be available now—or for years to come.

How To Choose And Buy Edibles Like A Pro

Edibles can be intimidating if you don’t know what to look for. Here are some basics you should know before visiting a dispensary.

The world of edibles can be overwhelming for those who have no previous experience with them. There are all types and dosages available, not to mention their reputation for bad highs.  It’s natural to step into a dispensary and turn away from edibles, choosing something more approachable, something you have more experience with that doesn’t have the potential to keep you couch-locked.

Despite this, a large percentage of cannabis users enjoy edibles, so much so that they choose them over all other methods of consumption. Edibles are healthier than vaping and smoking (at least for your lungs), and are capable of producing stronger results. They’re likely to provide more pain relief and a stronger response from your mind and body.

Still, these facts don’t make edibles any less intimidating, especially if you don’t know what’s in them and how they work. Here are some of the basics you should know, but first, make sure you understand Why You Need To Be Careful Using Edibles The First Time.

Is Marijuana Stronger Now Than It Was In The 1960s?

Any time that someone compares today’s marijuana with that of the 1960s, you can know with absolute certainty that they are lying.

One of the most successful themes in prohibitionist propaganda is the “New Potent Pot” line, which tells us that “marijuana stronger than it was back in the 60s, when everyone thought it was harmless.”

This “new potent pot” line is intended to negate the knowledge gained by experience and thereby eliminate this type of objection. It is said that the THC levels of marijuana today are (pick a number) times higher than in the past.

The notion that today’s marijuana that your children might smoke is qualitatively different from the marijuana in the past is obviously perfect for anxious parents who have been conditioned by decades of prohibitionist propaganda to feel guilty about their youthful “experimentation.” In this regard it is very successful.

That there is no data to back it up is not a problem, because, when the subject is marijuana,  the usual purveyors of data — the media (right, left and center) — have been in the anti-fact business for decades.  They have enshrined the “new potent pot” line as a basic part of “conventional wisdom.” Everyone knows…. Actually, it is what everyone does not know that is important.

Why Cannabis-Infused Drinks Are Hit Or Miss

Infused cannabis beverage makers are still addressing and experimenting with taste and dosing issues, and progress has been steady. But there is still a sense that all is not ready to go… just yet.

Non-alcoholic beer infused with CBD or THC sounds like a good plan. A natural fit. A new sort of buzz that doesn’t put you under the table, drooling as you slip into a moment of blanking out. It’s a more user friendlier intoxicant.

But there are a number of obstacles to overcome with cannabis-infused beverages, including taste, how much and what kind of CBD or THC to infuse, and consumer education about drinking these new cannabis products amid a mind-numbing onslaught of more and more cannabis products that clutter the shelves of most dispensaries.

Consumers know infused beverages as a sort of beer replacement product that does what beer does, only different.

Hey, why not an infused beer? Both hops and cannabis are closely related agriculture products. Both have terpenes and terpenoids (THC is a terpenoid). But hops lack an enzyme that could convert one of its chemicals to THC or CBD.

Marijuana and Athletes – What You Should Know

It seems that cannabis has never attracted this much attention. After decades of being outlawed for no valid reason, many states have legalized it again. The positive campaign attracted many users and informed the public on the positive effects of marijuana.

Is Japan ready to embrace CBD?

Kota Shimomura, owner of CBD Coffee in Tokyo’s Meguro Ward, has noticed a peculiar thing about his clientele. “When talking to customers, they do things like cry,” he says.

The 35-year-old Shimomura stands outside his newly opened, white-walled storefront, eyeing a group of patrons taking curious sips of coffees and smoothies infused with droplets of the cure-all taking Tokyo, and the global lifestyle market, by storm: CBD.

Also known as cannabidiol, CBD is a nonpsychoactive ingredient found in cannabis, specifically hemp. It can be consumed in topical and edible forms, and its proponents claim it can alleviate ailments ranging from acne to inflammation to PTSD. But Shimomura says it’s more than just product intrigue that has drawn in droves of customers: It’s his shop’s consultations, which allow Tokyoites to release their stress.

“There’s really a need for (a place like this),” he says, noting the rise in telework has left many feeling isolated. “People don’t have others around them they can talk to, and in Japan there are lots of one-room apartments. I truly understand the need people who don’t have (support) have for this kind of store, where they can do things like relax and detox.”

Health benefits

Relax and detox, as it turns out, are hallmark buzzwords for the increasingly trendy CBD. In recent years, as the global conversation around cannabis has shifted and many countries have moved toward legalization, the extract has popped up in everyday products such as moisturizers, bath salts and beer.
